Experiencing communal discernment: the first Province Congregation to take place in August

The first Congregation of the Euro-Mediterranean Province will be held from 17 to 22 August at the Casa Divin Maestro in Ariccia. About 50 Jesuits will be participating. Some of the main tasks include a reflection on the state of the Province and of the Society, addressing the most important opportunities and the most urgent needs, putting into place solutions.

“In particular” Fr. Roberto Del Riccio, EUM Provincial highlights “with regards to young people, Fr Sosa invites us to verify, whether in our apostolate we are making central a perspective of vocational discernment, helping young people to discover their place in the Church and in the world. He then encourages us to reflect on our Jesuit vocation and what steps can be taken to promote it further.” The attention given to the synodality of the proposed process is evident: “We want to live this dimension, which was strongly suggested by Pope Francis, first of all in our procedures, to fully experience the method of discernment: evaluating the pros and cons of everything, in an atmosphere of sharing, collaboration and true community, listening to the Spirit who works in our Society, making it a community of service. Only in this way shall we be able to participate in the gift that Ignatius had of seeing all things new in Christ “. The participants will then elect the Procurator and his substitute in view of the 71st Congregation of Procurators convoked by Fr. General for 2023 and will express themselves on the decision of the convocation of the General Congregation.
