CLC – Christian Life Communities in Malta

The CLC community in Malta is very alive, with about 250 members, approximately half of them in the 18-35 year old age bracket. Although CLC is an autonomous worldwide Ignatian community run by lay persons, the Jesuits are very much part of the CLC, with Fr General Arturo Sosa being the worldwide Ecclesiastical Assistant and each national community having an officially assigned Ecclesiastical Assistant (EA).

In Malta, the EA is Fr Christopher Vella SJ – he is a member of the CLC leadership team and the formation team and also assists in guiding a community. Fr Patrick Magro SJ is very involved in work with the young adult communities, particularly through his mission as Chaplain of the University of Malta and as director of Dar Manwel Magri – the Jesuit residence and student hub which welcomes so many young people daily.

A large number of CLC groups hold their meetings at Dar Manwel Magri. Fr Patrick is also a member of the CLC young communities team and guide of two communities. Fr Oliver Borg Olivier is on the CLC Formation Team and is a member of a community.

Fr Vince Magri, Fr Alfred Micallef, Fr Paul Pace and Br Frankie Borg are members of communities. Several other Jesuits accompany CLC groups by giving retreats, spiritual exercises and other formative sessions. Many members of CLC are active partners in mission with the Society of Jesus, serving in apostolic works in positions such as heads of school, chaplains, teachers and formators, communications, management etc.
