Piero is a deacon

“You who will come into contact with the Body and Blood of Christ on the altar, do you want to dedicate your whole life to Him?” “Yes, with God’s help, I do.”

This brief exchange between the bishop and the future deacons during the Mass of Ordination expresses all the beauty of the diaconate: a milestone in the desire to follow in the footsteps of Christ.

Being aware of one’s own inadequacy, trust in God’s action remains. The words of Ignatius will remain an essential encouragement for me: “Act as if everything depended on you, knowing that in reality everything depends on God”.

This is what Piero Loredan, a Jesuit in formation from the EUM Province, who is in Paris for the third and final year of the first cycle of theology at the Facultés (formerly the Centre Sèvres) has shared.

On Saturday, 26 April at 3 p.m., in the church of Notre Dame de Champs, 14 other young men in formation received diaconal ordination. The liturgy was celebrated by Monsignor Laurent Bernard Marie Ulrich, Metropolitan Archbishop of Paris.

“The last thing I wanted to become when I grew up was a priest. The last place I wanted to end up in at the age of 31 was the novitiate. It was not my choice.”
